Typhoon No. 2 (Noul) Unlikely to Directly Impact Mainland Vietnam

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a new warning regarding Typhoon No. 2, internationally named Noul, indicating that the likelihood of direct impact on mainland Vietnam is minimal.

Current Position and Movement Direction

According to the latest updates, Typhoon No. 2 maintains its trajectory and is currently positioned approximately 510 kilometers from Hong Kong, China. The typhoon is primarily moving in a west-northwest direction with wind strength reaching levels 10-11, with gusts up to level 13.

Forecasted Path and Intensity

Over the next 24 hours, the typhoon is expected to continue moving west-northwest at approximately 15-20 kilometers per hour. By the morning of September 17, the typhoon's center will likely be located at 22.5°N latitude - 113.0°E longitude, over the northeastern waters of Hainan Island, China.

The typhoon's intensity may increase slightly to levels 11-12, with gusts reaching level 15. Subsequently, it will gradually weaken as it moves inland over China, making landfall in the Guangdong province area.

Potential Impact on Vietnam

Despite Typhoon No. 2's significant intensity, its primary trajectory toward China means the likelihood of direct impact on mainland Vietnam is very low. However, the northern waters of the East Sea (South China Sea) will still experience the typhoon's effects with winds of levels 6-7, increasing to 8-10 near the typhoon's center. Wave heights in these areas are expected to reach 3-5 meters.

Preventive Measures

Although direct impact is unlikely, authorities recommend that residents and maritime activities closely monitor the typhoon's development. Specific precautions include:

  • Vessels operating in the northern waters of the East Sea should seek safe shelter
  • Avoid maritime travel in the coming days
  • Coastal provinces should proactively count residents and ensure safety measures are in place
  • Prepare contingency plans for unexpected situations

Additional Information about Typhoon Noul

Conclusion

Although Typhoon No. 2 is strong, its primary trajectory toward China means the likelihood of direct impact on mainland Vietnam is minimal. However, residents and maritime activities should continue to closely monitor the typhoon's development to ensure safety.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting will continue to provide the latest updates on Typhoon No. 2 through daily weather forecasts.
